What follows reads less like a straight chronology and more like a political thriller: rival factions, informants, agent provocateurs, betrayals, and, at times, murder. Across several decades, three competing camps emerge and clash — though by the end, the reader may wonder whether there were ever really three separate sides at all.
Much of the material in this section has been documented by Alexander Baron in The Searchlight Archives, Larry O’Hara in Notes from the Borderland, alongside reporting from The Jewish Chronicle and more recent work by Andrew Bell, Alexander Coppen, and Tilly Turner. While much of Britain was absorbed in soap operas like Coronation Street and EastEnders, these men were shaping — and fighting over — the real East End.
Importantly, Larry O’Hara and Alexander Baron were not writing from a distance. They were writing in real time, while events were still unfolding. Their work captures not just what happened, but how it looked and felt while it was happening — uncertain, disputed, and constantly developing.
Searchlight also worked in two ways at once. It reported events as they happened, but it also built a long-term archive. Over time, it went back over earlier material and reinterpreted it as new information came in. The result is a layered record: part live reporting, part historical reconstruction.
This layering becomes even clearer after the deaths of figures such as Harry Bidney and Garry Gable. Their obituaries added a lot of new detail. Things that were once scattered across reports and personal accounts were brought together in one place. In some cases this helped clarify the story; in others it raised new questions.
One key feature of this world is that many of the people involved are also its writers. They document events, defend their own accounts, and argue over what really happened. But that also means the record is not always neutral — it is shaped by personal experience and long-running disputes.
Even official obituaries, where reputations are usually carefully managed, can shift the picture. The obituary of Gerry Gable, published shortly before this account was written, included details that did not fully match earlier understandings. For this author, those details helped fill in missing parts of the timeline, but they also highlighted contradictions that had been present for years.
This account will be updated as more material comes to light, and as the overlapping claims, disputes, and competing narratives around Gerry Gable, his protégé Nick Lowles, and former associate Matthew Collins are examined further.

“Intelligence-led anti-fascism’ inevitably led to an area of work which became Searchlight’s true hallmark: the use of agents or ‘moles’ within the far-right groups”
Let’s Meet the Characters!
| Communists | Zionists | Nationalists |
| Young Communist Party | 43 Group | British Union of Fascists |
| The Communist Party | 62 Group | National Front |
| Anti-Nazi League | Searchlight | National Socialist Movement (Column 88) |
| Committee Against Racial Discrimination | Hope not Hate | British National Party (Combat 18) |
On the surface, The British Communists and Nationalists appear to represent the familiar political divide of right vs left. The Nationalists operate openly as a collection of legally registered political parties, positioned in opposition to Communism.
But the role of The Zionists complicates that picture entirely.
Although the zionists presents themselves as part of the broader left, often speaking in the language of anti-racism, anti-fascism, journalism, or “public interest” campaigning, its influence appears to extend far beyond mere political support. Over time, it increasingly resembles a network operating behind the scenes: shaping narratives, controlling reputations, deciding who may speak, and directing sustained campaigns against British Nationalists and those associated with it.
To critics, the allegation is not simply that the Zionists supports the Communists, but that it effectively manages and disciplines it — determining which causes are amplified, which individuals are protected, and which enemies are to be politically or socially destroyed.
The geopolitical dimension makes the picture even murkier. While Nationalists are portrayed as sympathetic toward Great Britain and her people, the Zionists appear consistently aligned with the interests and narratives of Israel. Whether this alignment is ideological, cultural, strategic, or something else entirely remains fiercely disputed. Nevertheless, the pattern emerges too consistently to ignore: Native Brits are frequently treated not merely as political rivals, but as moral outcasts.
As the lines between activism, intelligence, media influence, and political organisation begin to blur, the reader is left confronting an uncomfortable possibility: that the real struggle was never simply left versus right, but a battle over who controls the story itself.
1936 The Battle of Cable Street

“Communists, Fascists and Jews line Cable street 1936…”
The Battle of Cable Street was a confrontation in London’s East End on 4 October 1936, when supporters of Oswald Mosley and the British Union of Fascists attempted to march through a largely Jewish and working-class area.
They were met by thousands of opponents — including Jewish residents, trade unionists, local workers, anarchists, Labour activists, and members of the Communist Party of Great Britain — who blocked the route and clashed with police as they tried to clear the march.
The march was ultimately abandoned, but the event quickly became politically charged. Some accounts describe it as a spontaneous mass uprising against fascism; others argue it was more organised and strategically led by communist activists than later memory suggests. Over time, it has become a contested symbol claimed by different political traditions, each shaping its meaning to fit their own narrative.
1946 The 43 Group (1946-1950)

An Anti-fascist organisation of Jewish soldiers coming home from the war formed the 43 Group.

• Composed of: Jewish ex-WWII servicemen, veterans from Cable Street 1936.
• Yellow Star Movement activists, Spanish Civil War International Brigade veterans, Supporters of Beginite Herut and The Irghun

“Like those who fought at the Battle of Cable Street in 1936 and the 43 Group in the 1940s, their activities are an inspiration, not only to Jewish people, but to communities that face racist attacks everywhere.”– Steve Silver

• Jewish Soho nightclub owner described as a “masochist not too particular about who beat him, male or female, but preferred young men“
• His boss was once prosecuted for acquiring him a young boy.
• “Regular client of Joan”
• Founding member of 43 Group and most likely leader of 62 Group.
• Had 2 Special Branch handlers
Served in the army until being demobbed in 1946. Spent much of the war in Singapore where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant, and acted as Warrant Officer. After being discharged, he returned to his mother’s house in the East End from where he sold nylon stockings.

1962 The 62 Group (1962 – 1977)
“As the 43-Group young men got older, and young men my own age took up the cause, a new group was formed, called the 62 Group“- Gerald Ronson.

Born from a rally in Trafalgar Square by the National Socialist Movement under the slogan “Free Britain from Jewish Control”.
Another Jewish militant anti-fascist organisation of ex-servicemen described as “notoriously violent” as their main aim was beating fascists in the street. Many now convicted, either for assault, vandalism, burglary or other offences.
Key figures: Harry Bidney, Gerry Gable, Baron Moss, Gerald Ronson, Cyril Paskin.
• Composed of: Ex-43 Group veterans
• Dependent on the reporter, led by either Harry Bidney or Cyril “the hairdresser“
62 Group Activities

The seizure of membership lists and correspondence in raids on fascist headquarters; the audacious night time burglary of the National Socialist Movement HQ in Notting Hill and much more….
Cyril Paskin is now the Chairman and Founder of the PGMT, a charity for disadvantaged children. Renamed after him in 2011 as the Paskin Children’s Trust, now renamed to Kids In Mind. This author wonders why his name sake was taken away.

1963 The Synagogue Arsons

Whilst in 62 Group, Bidney allegedly tried to frame the British National Party leader Colin Jordan as the mastermind behind the synagogue fires. It is also assumed that Gable is involved as in the later years Gable will recount this story many, many, many times, each with different embellishments, this author has read them all, all of them Gerry.

• Young Communist Party activist
Depending on who is asked, Gable is either Bidney’s protégé (from Gable himself) or his unrequited, not-so-secret crush (from apolitical friend of Bidney).

Gerry Gable Activities
•Gable and two others gained entry to David Irving’s flat, their intention was to obtain Irving’s private papers.
• Gable was convicted of “entry by artifice” and/or breaking and entering. An apparently apathetic judge imposed only minor penalties, to Irving’s fury.
• Gable has advised Met Police and Anti-Muslim hate crime charity Tell mama until his death.

Searchlight Activities
Searchlight worked quietly behind the scenes, supplying intelligence to networks of anti-fascist and anti-racist groups across the country and keeping track of their activities. In its early days it released just three magazines before suddenly falling silent, disappearing almost as quickly as it had emerged. When it eventually returned and relaunched years later, however, the publication re-emerged with far greater influence, soon becoming a well-known name in the world of ‘anti-fascist’ ‘reporting’.
The Searchlight Association Limited was dissolved by notice in the London Gazette, October 3, 1975.

Co-founder and senior partner of Searchlight magazine from the Midlands.
• Founded Committee Against Racial Discrimination (CCARD, 1961)
• Founded Anti-Nazi League (1977–78)
• Associated with exposing far-right groups, including Column 88 alleged hoax.
• Member of the Young Communist League and later The Communist Party.

Ludmer’s Activities
• CCARD, 1961 – Vanguard of confronting the “ugly racist tide” sweeping through, in particular, white working class communities.
• Co-authored A Well-Oiled Nazi Machine (1974) with Gerry Gable (Column 88 alleged hoax)

1966 Cohen and Carpal Convicted

Searchlight photographer Michael Cohen and Manny Carpal of The 62-Group was convicted of attempted burglary in August 1966 for the burglary of W.H. Jones in Stoke Newington, the past printing press used by John Tyndall’s Greater Britain Movement.
This marks the second arrest for Cohen who was also arrested at Kerbella Street when he helped break through the police line and chase John Tyndall and his Greater Britain Movement off the streets.

1968 Rivers of Blood Powell
In one of the most controversial political moments in modern British history, the Conservative politician Enoch Powell spoke openly about the social tensions he believed could arise from rapid demographic and cultural change.
1972 Two Anonymous Pamplets Released
The anonymous THE MONDAY CLUB A danger to British Democracy (1972), and the Guide To Extremism In Britain, (1973) are published.
Baron speculates these pamphlets:
“Have all the hallmarks of arch-Aryan-hater Maurice Ludmer. The innuendo is that everyone on the right or who wants an end to immigration is a Nazi/genocidal maniac.”

1977 Ludmer Creates Anti-Nazi League
The intelligence and campaigning material provided by Searchlight were absolutely central to the devastating propaganda campaigns subsequently waged by the ANL against the National Front which played such a huge part in that organisation’s demise.
When the Anti-Nazi League was founded in 1977, Gerry and Maurice were among its first sponsors, and Searchlight became its intelligence wing.

1977 Searchlight Magazine Relaunches
The relaunch was in direct response to a resurgence of the National Front and British National Party.
In 1967 the League of Empire Loyalists and the British National Party combined to form the National Front under the leadership of A K Chesterton. It was joined by the Greater Britain Movement, led by John Tyndall, who in short order deposed Chesterton and took over.

1987 Searchlight Information Services

As of December 31, 1987, the directors of Searchlight Information Services were Gerry Gable and Michael Cohen; Cohen was also Company Secretary.
Stephen Silver 10% shareholder.
1988 Codename: Arthur
Memoir written by Ray Hill with Andrew Bell, published in 1988. “Arthur” was the codename used for Hill during his time as an undercover.
The book tells the story of Ray Hill’s life inside the British far right and his later role as an informant (“mole”) for Searchlight magazine 1970-80s.
However, Hill‘s background remains heavily contested as, the earliest mention of Raymond Hill is him informing the reader he is Jewish.
So we assume it went Jewish to Nazi to anti-fascist informer for the Jewish intelligence street gang, I mean magazine…. The book became one of the most widely cited insider accounts of the British far-right scene in the 1970s–1980s, often referenced in studies of groups like the National Front and British Movement.

1989-92 “Same old rubbish…
…about the poor, persecuted “powerless” Jews, the wicked “fascists” of the National Front, ad nauseam.” – Alexander Baron
There was a severe lack of far right bogeyman for years after the star mole “came out” via his memoirs.

1989 Matthew Collins

• Searchlight undercover informant
• Hope not hate editor and writer
• Robbie Mullens‘ handler
Allowed Searchlight to expose the activities and plans of the terror group Combat 18. Later on, much like he himself had been handled by someone at Searchlight, Collins handled Robbie Mullens to foil the terror plot of National Action in 2017.
Did Collins’ handling of Robbie Mullens in 2017 echo that of his own handling in the 1992 foiling of Combat 18?

Reasons for Collins joining Searchlight are heavily contested…
1994 Exposure of Combat 18
Combat 18 emerged in 1992 from networks linked to the British National Party. Reasons for their creation are heavily contested.
Matthew Collins was heavily involved and had to go into hiding after events.
ITV’s World in Action documented Combat 18.
Key period
• 1994–1995: Informants inside Combat 18 began passing intelligence to Searchlight magazine.
• 1995: Major internal documents, plans, and membership details of Combat 18 were exposed publicly.
• 1996–1997: Further leaks and testimony helped reveal internal violence, weapons stockpiling, and terror plots.
• Informants’ involved: Darren Wells, Matthew Collins, Tim Hepple

1999 London nail bombings

David Copeland carried out three nail bomb attacks apparently targeting minority communities, Injuring over 130 and killing 3:
17th April 1999 – Electric Avenue Market
24th April 1999 – Brick Lane
30th April 1999 – Admiral Duncan pub (gay bar)
‘Codename Arthur’ a Searchlight infiltrator in the BNP, was the sole witness in identifying the London nail bomber David Copeland.
Note for the observant: This is not the same Arthur as Hill‘s Arthur as, Hill had already blown his cover in 1988 when he published his memoirs.

1999 Nick Lowles (1968- present)
Lowlesy arrives on the scene as a writer/co-editor in Searchlig
t magazine and many more places, under many pen names.
• Searchlight editor (1999–2011)
• HOPE not Hate Founder (2004)
• ITV’s World in Action
• BBC’s Panorama
• Like his mentor Gerry, Lowles also sits upon a throne of lies.
As the described protégé of Gerry Gable, did the relationship echo the past murmurings described of Bidney and Gable, or something else entirely? Depends who you ask.
2000 Nick Lowles activities
Much like his mentor Gable, and Gable’s mentor Bidney before that, Lowlesy has been a busy bee indeed. His antics are far more documented in the era of the digital age, quite handy for this author.
Highlights:
• Writing a book on the man who identified “far-right” nail bomber David Copeland in Codename Arthur.
• Undercover operations.
• Faking reports of acid attack on Muslim during UK summer riots 2024
• Catching Andrew Macintyre with Collins and Gregory D, this authors’ favourite litigious ghost of HNH- Boo Gregory, we see you.
2002 Searchlight Education Trust Complaint
In May 2002, the Charity Commission received a complaint alleging that Searchlight Education Trust was carrying out political activities that were not compatible with its charitable status.
2004 Hope not Hate Campaign launched
“Until September 2011, Searchlight magazine was styled “International magazine of the Hope Not Hate Campaign.”
(The magazine voluntarily ceased styling itself thus following the resignation of Mr Lowles as editor and his replacement by Mr Gable, but SIS did not request Searchlight magazine to cease this use.)
Use of the ‘Hope Not Hate’ name was first proposed by Mr Gable. The use of this
name has not been exclusive to SIS.”
‘Hope Not Hate’ was conceived as a campaigning brand name for SIS
2005 Stop the BNP created
Later renamed to Hope not Hate.

Over the next two decades Lowles, Collins and Gregory Davis use their gathered skills from the Jewish street gangs before them, to terrorise the so-called “far-right menace” under the guise of “anti-fascism”.
Like their hero’s Bidney the pimp and Gable the menace, their main activities include but not limited to, undercover intelligence, writing ratty articles on British patriots, stalking, harassment, threats and general agent provocateur behavior.
The widespread doxxing campaign by Hope Not Hate and Searchlight, which has put the wives and children of their opponents at risk, is not merely a political issue for this author. Some of those affected are friends. For that reason, the matter is not one that will simply be left alone.
2006 Roberts & Anor v Gable & Ors – Find Case Law – The National Archives
1. Christopher Roberts
2. Barry Roberts members of the BNP sue Gable and Searchlight magazine for libel.
2011 Hope Not Hate Splits From Searchlight
There was a painful split with Hope Not Hate in 2011 which was eventually healed in 2023. The split was never acknowledged however resulted in Lowles, Collins and a few others ceasing to appear as writers for Searchlight anymore, whilst continuing their work with Hope Not Hate.
Ruth Smeeth was a deputy director before 2015;[13] after that, she was a member of its board.[14]As of 2019, the Deputy Director was Jemma Levene,[15] who previously worked as Head of Campaigns at Jewish cultural education charity SEED.[16]
2017 Mullens Foils Terror Plot

By some Mullens is described as simple, by others “a liar for his paymasters Hope Not Hate”.
• The sole witness to the National Action murder plot to kill the MP Rosie Cooper
• Handled by Matthew Collins
• Once all was said and done Mullens enjoyed an all paid trip to New York on the house of Hope Not Hate with his favourite handler Collins.
Awh, dreams do come true Robbie.
Much like Searchlight provided the sole identifying witness of the London nail bomber David Copeland. Robert was the sole witness to the murderous plot to kill MP Rosie Cooper.
2021 Netflix documentary ‘Nail-Bomber Manhunt’
CST another off shoot of the 62-Group claims that it played a role in identifying David Copeland as the London nail bomber in the 1990s.
The Chairman Gerald Ronson says it achieved this by working closely with Searchlight to infiltrate the British National Party.
Curiously, David Copeland was never a member of the BNP.
CST also states that its activities are entirely legal and conducted in close partnership with the police. According to the group, Gerald Ronson operates in close proximity to law enforcement, while Gerry Gable serves as an advisor to the Metropolitan Police.
2021 Lowlesy Writes Codename “Arthur”
The astonishing true story of “Arthur 2,” who went undercover in the British far right and helped identify the London Nail Bomber, David Copeland, is not written by Ray Hill (“Arthur 1”), but by Nick Lowles (“Arthur 2“?).
Yet, as Larry O’Hara rightly notes, large portions of the book are lifted directly from old Searchlight articles and contain falsehoods about O’Hara which Lowles added out of spite later.
Much like his mentor Gerry Gable before him, Lowlesy’s book is riddled with lies, distortions, and inaccuracies, as O’Hara meticulously documents. Proving that, much like his mentor before him, Lowles is a big fat lying liar who lies

2021 Larry O’Hara points out several mistakes in Codename Arthur
“Did Codename Arthur inside the British National Party really exist or was ‘he’ a composite figure based on a number of informants? And can anything Nick Lowles claims be taken at face value?” – Simon Tomlin
Larry points out 10 glaring inacuracies
The British National Party leadership were not behind the intriguing ‘Blue Book’ claiming the Sargent brothers were state assets within C18: it was in fact Will Browning, aided by Searchlight/state asset Darren Wells. Indeed, given Wells was involved, the text may well have originated with MI5 (p.35/102) Larry pointed these out to Nick before publish and Lowles inserted seven liesand doxxed his workplace and address.
2022 Robert and Matthew- Another Tell All

Robert does a new interview and this author learns some more timeline info.
Simple Robert, unlike Lowlesy and Gable, is not very good at keeping his story straight, and you can bet he can’t rely on equally as dim handler Collins, who this author describes as “the wheels spinning but the hamster is asleep”… among other more unpublishable things.
Did the relationship between Robbie and Collins echo… well, by now you can probably guess the pattern…..
2023 Lowles and Gable reconcile
We wonder why there was need for reconciliation.
Gerry publicly offered the hand of friendship to HOPE not hate CEO Nick Lowles at an anti-fascist anniversary event in 2023.
“We’ve got enough problems fighting the other lot at the moment, without fighting amongst ourselves” Gerry said at the time.
2024 Summer Riots

Lowlesy faked an acid attack during one of the worst times of unrest Great Britain has ever seen, causing several Muslim clans to take to the street to “defend their mosques, brothers and sisters”. This caused several lone White men to be savagely beaten on the street by Muslim gangs.
Rumours of acid and mosque attacks have been greatly exaggerated.
2025 The Frauds and Fables of Hope Not Hate Published

How Long Can The CPS Ignore The Criminality Of Hope Not Hate? By Alexander Coppen of The Restorationist published.
Provides a detailed catalog of alleged crimes, falsehoods, and agent provocateur activities, much like their predecessor Searchlight.
Gable retired from Searchlight when it moved fully online in 2025 and then died. This author knows he’s looking up at us right now. Hi Gerry sweetie, the year of the mole has arrived, hope you enjoy it.

| “You’re fascist so we can attack you” | “Nationalism will save our country” |
| “You’re fascist” | “Communism doesn’t work” |
| “You’re racist” | “Prioritise the natives” |
The street gangs of rabid Communists and other rascals have taken it upon themselves to police the streets of London and our once Great Britain, chasing out the so-called “Nazi/Fascist menace”. They dedicated their entire lives to terrorising, burglarising, harassing, attacking, lying about and criminally doxxing Great British men and women. Those native Brits’ only crime being the prioritisation of the native people of the United Kingdom, their wives, children and elderly.
Nationalism is the belief that a nation (a group of people with shared culture, language, history, or identity) should have its own independent state and should prioritise its own interests, rather than those of foreign interest of globalism. By default, these little street gangs of thugs, pimps, criminals and degenerates composed of men loyal to a foreign nation rather than the one who graciously give them refuge, have been terrorising the natives, taking away their rights, their voice and putting their families in danger for decades. Their methods of doing so being illegal and corrupt due to them being on the losing and immoral side.
The message of British nationalists has always been consistent: pride in and support for one’s nation, a focus on national unity and identity, and the belief in self-determination—the idea that each nation has the right to govern itself without outside control. National Front, The British National Party, The National Socialist Movement etc., have all been legitimate, legal political and democratic parties. The activities of the terroristic street gangs that have plagued them have been far from democratic, moral, and just.
